Darwin Nunez scores four goals as Liverpool smash RB Leipzig in pre-season friendly

Darwin Nunez scored four goals in Liverpool’s 5-0 victory over RB Leipzig in their pre-season friendly on Thursday evening.

Mohamed Salah got Liverpool off the mark in the eighth minute with a side-footed finish inside the box following an exchange with Roberto Firmino.

Nunez doubled Liverpool’s lead from the penalty spot in the 48th minute when Liaz Diaz was taken out by Leipzig goalkeeper Janis Blaswich.

Nunez netted his second of the game three minutes later when Liverpool’s sharp pressing saw Trent Alexander-Arnold prod the ball through and the Uruguay international finished low into the side of the net.

Liverpool’s £85 million summer signing then completed his hat-trick thanks to more quick pressing from Jurgen Klopp’s side. Harvey Elliott provided the assist this time as his low cross was met by Nunez, who finished from close range.

Nunez scored his fourth in the closing stages of the game following a brilliant piece of individual play from Fabio Carvalho.

‘I think everybody is really happy for him and was looking for him [in the dressing room afterwards],’ Liverpool defender Joel Matip said of Nunez after the game.

‘Great finish, great speed and the work he always put in, I think it will be really difficult for our opponents.’
