Mikel Arteta driving Arsenal’s interest in Youri Tielemans after Oleksandr Zinchenko transfer amid Manchester United interest

Mikel Arteta remains intent on signing Leicester City star Youri Tielemans following the acquisition of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.

The Ukraine international is set to complete a £32million move to the Emirates in the next 48 hours after the Gunners agreed a fee with City.

The Gunners moved quickly to sign Zinchenko after Manchester United beat them to the signature of Lisandro Martinez from Ajax.

Arteta wanted the Argentine because of his flexibility, with Martinez capable of playing at left-back and central midfield.

Zinchenko covers both positions, which many felt would end Arsenal’s pursuit of Leicester ace Tielemans.

But the Telegraph say Arteta is still keen on signing the Belgian and is the ‘main driving force’ behind the club’s interest.

The Gunners are yet to move for Tielemans, who has a year left on his deal with the Foxes, because they’ve been focused on other signings such as Gabriel Jesus and Zinchenko.

But Manchester United have shown interest in Tielemans and Arsenal will accelerate their move if the Red Devils make a play of their own.

Tielemans has intimated he will not sign a new deal at the KingPower stadium and Brendan Rodgers’ side will reluctantly listen to offers in the region of £30m for the former Anderlecht man.

The midfielder had been keen to join a Champions League club but offers have been in short supply.

United are currently focused on signing Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong but they’re struggling to convince the Dutchman to move to Old Trafford.

A fee of £63m has been agreed with the Catalans for the former Ajax star but he wants to stay at the Camp Nou.

The Red Devils will ramp up their interest in Tielemans if De Jong makes it clear once and for all that he doesn’t want to join the club.
